Thorhall, nicknamed the Hunter (Þorhallr Veiðiman)

Thorhall was in the service of Eirik the Red. He was experienced in the exploring of large desolate areas and had probably been with Eirik when the latter explored Greenland. Participating in Karlsefni’s expedition, he was instrumental in the finding of a stranded whale when the expedition was at a loss for food. Arriving at the base in Vinland, he decided to explore in a northerly direction from the base in Vinland but was caught up in bad weather and storm-driven to Ireland where he and his crew died in slavery.
